I started Day-Ri Tales as a fun little weekly comic depicting fun moments in my life as a side project. I saw other people online making comics and I was simply like, ???I want to do that too!???. Believe it or not, it took a lot of courage to post these comics, let alone even make. I had thoughts like, is this interesting to anyone? Will people think this is stupid? I???ve never done this before, they???re for sure going to look a little shitty. But the desire to want to make these comics found enough courage to push my doubts aside, and I???m honestly so glad they did! They???re still so much fun to make, and to my surprise, I???ve had friends and people online reach out to me saying that they love reading these weekly. Even when I took a break because I still couldn???t figure out how to produce these efficiently, people told me they were excited that they were making a comeback. You have no idea how much joy that brings me. For the most part, I do these things for myself because drawing has always something that I loved doing and if I liked it that was enough praise for me, so to hear people liked the stuff I did was too unreal.??
Despite this project starting as something I just wanted to do in my spare time, I???ve learned a lot from these comics. Useful skills such as pen control on a drawing tablet, scheduling and backlogging, and even storytelling. The more I do these comics the more I also realize there is still so much more I want to improve on. I???m not entirely sure what type of quality I???m looking for, but I know that there???s a lot of potential in these comics, so why not make the most of it!??
Also, random fun fact, I???ve had plenty of people ask me if what happens in the comics happened in real life. To all those non-believers, you can be surprised how much fun the usual mundane activities can be, and you???ll be even more shocked by what goes on in my head daily. I can say with confidence that I have a unique way of thinking and speaking. If you ever held a proper conversation with me, you???ll know exactly what I???m referring too!????
Day-Ri Tales is far from breaking the threshold of anything, and it???ll probably always remain a fun side project for me, and I???m fine with that. It would be fun to have a larger range of an audience, but I can???t forget what these comics mean to me. And speaking of a larger audience, I???m nowhere close to publishing a book featuring my comics, but if these were to have a cover I would like something like this. Nothing outlandish or too fantastical, because that wouldn???t match the content inside. Instead just a simple image of my main character. Before I was going to place her in a simple scene in the cover. In the pink cover, she would be at a bus stop, and the orange cover was her at a bakery. However, when I started to draw everything out it became a little too cramped and the scene was just floating. So I decided to scrap the background. But with the character and title floating in blank space was still a little too plain, so I decided to add in panels from comics I made during those years lighting faded in the background. It filled in the space quite nicely without overcomplicating anything! Also, a fun and annoying fact about the square title, it took me nearly three years to finally come to a type of title branding that I liked and creating the dang thing only took less than an hour. But it???s here now, and you???re going to see the sucker on every Day-Ri Tales thing!??
For the most part, that???s all I have to say for this prompt!
Thank you all for supporting Day-Ri Tales so far, and I hope you enjoy the comics that are yet to come!??
