An Oasis In The Midst Of A Wasteland

Have you ever been invited to a party by a close friend only to look at the guest list and realize you have no idea who anyone else is? You???re reluctant to go because you hardly know anyone, yet at the same time, you can???t say no because this party is your friend???s going away party before they move so who knows when you???ll ever see them again? So now you???re dreading the party and you???re counting down the days to what you have already assumed to be a shitty memory. Suddenly a glimmer of hope appears when your other friend tells you they???re going to the same party. Turns out your two friends knew each other since middle school, small world huh! Now you???re excited to go knowing you won???t be in it alone!

That???s what this prompt reminds me of.

That time when you were going to tread on foreign grounds nervous if people will like you or if you???ll even get valuable experience from going at all. Then suddenly your friend asks if they can come along. Now you have a little more jump in your step, a confidence boost knowing there is a sense a familiarity with you, and now the ???Buddy System??? is starting to sound a little less stupid to you. This just goes to show it???s true when they say there is strength in numbers.

That???s the feeling I want to capture in my illustration for this prompt. The ???oasis??? is being with someone who makes you feel at home despite not being in your comfort zone, and the ???wasteland??? is any place you would deem uncomfortable on your own. Such as my earlier example of a party, but it can also be a new school or an orientation. It???s any place that kick starts your social survival instincts.

This illustration was also done with those pro-makers. Despite wanting to get better at digital illustration, it???s nice to use the other supplies that I have because lord knows that I have plenty. But I think it???s also important to explore other mediums as well because who knows, it might spark some new inspiration in you and it???ll help you appreciate the act of creating art a little more.

But that???s all for now! Remember to use the buddy system during dire times!

Until next time!
